MEMO TO THE SLUSH PILE, BECAUSE THIS DOESN'T WARRANT A LETTER....

To -----:  For some reason, every single time you use a quotation mark in your manuscript, I see an Ò or an Ó, depending on whether it's an opening or a closing mark. Your apostrophe shows up as an Õ. If you have an HP laptop (like mine) it may be you've struck the control and shift keys together at the same time. Did you proofread your piece before sending it out? You couldn't have.

I've tried to read it, but every time I get immersed in your story, another Ò, Ó, or Õ pulls me out of it. It's just too much. I need to get on with things. I have a lot of other stories to read. Sorry.

- Susan.

  1. My thanks for Janet Nicolson for pointing out on the I Read On Spec Facebook page that this may be due to a submissions software bug. As I've never run into this before, I'll give the writer the benefit of the doubt and do a 'search and replace' on the manuscript.
